He claims our first-born entered the world
and looked straight into his soul.
That instant on, his life transformed;
our two-thirds became a whole.
He was a natural from the start,
with an infant, small and frail.
Not many men possess such ease
and cower at first wail.
The infant grew and soon was joined
by one and then another.
Our wholeness grew and filled with love.
A parent’s love is like no other.
Midnight feeding, diaper changing,
homework helping sympathizer.
Football watching, soccer coaching,
young adult finance adviser.
This father’s love remained steadfast
throughout the many years.
He was the rock, the reference point
through times of joy and tears.
He was a natural from the start.
He is a natural still.
Three children, now adults, are blessed.
They love him...always will.
I was pretty sure my husband was going to be a good father. I could tell by the way he treated his dog in college. That was one lucky dog! But I could never have predicted that he would be the greatest father.
My first illustrated collection of poems is available for purchase.
