I went to get my mail today
as innocent as could be.
An official looking envelope
was staring up at me.
It looked rather imposing.
It gave me quite a scare.
What is this form attached here?
It can’t be..yes…it’s Medicare!
Old people go on Medicare!
They’ve made a big mistake.
My husband laughs and shakes his head,
“Oh Judi, dear, for goodness sake…
I signed you up three months ago!
My god, you are naive.”
I started with denial
and then began to grieve.
I grieved my youth, that fleeting state
of life that came and went.
So here I am, in later years..
and now I am hellbent
on cherishing each and every day.
Though Medicare is a must,
the future awaits and I’ll be trying
to live my life to it’s fullest.
I open my mailbox with a sense of trepidation these past few years. The first AARP magazine was a bit of a jolt. But the surprises keep on coming.
We all know of friends and family that are estranged. Perhaps it has even affected you. Oftentimes, when you ask about the cause of the estrangement, the parties can't even recall!
My first illustrated collection of poems is available for purchase.
