THE CRYSTAL BALL
I often wished for a crystal ball.
My friends finally bought me one.
I peered into its milky depths
looking for answers….alas, there were none.
Will my babies be healthy?
Will my marriage last?
Will my parents live long lives?
Will my dreams be filled, or dashed?
The answers, of course, came with time
and not with hocus pocus.
Still I query my crystal ball.
Same questions, with new focus:
Will my grandchildren be healthy?
Will my kids’ marriages last?
Will we live long lives?
And the crystal ball?
Just a piece of glass.
So there it sits, gathering dust.
A lovely ornament on my mirrored tray.
Regarding life, and its future path?
I’ll just keep living it...come what may.
I am pretty sure I am not alone in wishing, from time to time, that we could see into our futures. I have several friends that love to go to psychics. I have resisted that temptation. However, I do confess to the occasional urge.
It is impossible to encapsulate the value of friendship. Many have tried. This week's post is my humble effort. There truly are no words.
My first illustrated collection of poems is available for purchase.
